Crisis Mental Health Clinician

Pay: $50,000 - $57,500 depending on experience and licensure status - benefits eligible
Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday typically days

Volunteers of America, Utah builds a community-supported bridge that provides a path for those who are vulnerable to improve their lives and increase their self-reliance.

You will support the Youth Resource Center clients and its programs through the provision of mental health support services for clients, crisis management and intervention, case management, clinical training and consultation for staff at Volunteers of America, Utah’s Youth Resource Center. The Youth Resource Center is a refuge for youth ages 15-22 that have experienced extreme disconnect from positive adult role models and benefit greatly from the consistent support of healthy adults. Supervision provided for therapists working toward licensure.

Essential Duties

  • Provide crisis intervention and appropriate referrals as needed to, the YRC case management team, YESS team, Cornerstone Counseling or other clinical or behavioral health services.
  • Perform individual mental health support which could include intake evaluations/assessments, formulate client diagnoses, and provide individual, couple, family, and group therapy services.
  • Develop and maintain an effective therapeutic alliance with clients, including conceptualizing and fostering effective therapeutic process.
  • Provide some case management services to clients in order to plan, coordinate, cooperate or deliver ancillary services necessary for the effective treatment of clients.
  • Maintain clinical records, record service, and develop and update treatment plans as indicated by agency policies and procedures, submit and track authorizations/re-authorizations for funding.
  • Conduct regular, weekly clinical staff meetings to review client progress and provide clinical consultation for program staff
  • Assist management with providing guidance and training for staff related to client confidentiality, working with minors, documentation and client records, etc.
  • Assist Program Manager and Division Director in maintaining the quality of client records through appropriate review and oversight; assist in preparing for audits of client files

Competencies Needed

  • Knowledge of DSM-based diagnostics
  • Knowledge of individual and group therapy methods
  • Knowledge of basic mental health and substance abuse evaluation and treatment methods.
  • Meeting-management skills necessary to conduct clinical staff meetings
  • Knowledge of community resources related to youth, homelessness, mental health and substance abuse
  • Ability to work with clients of different ethnic backgrounds and different socio-economic levels.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and have knowledge of laws, regulations and ethics affecting the delivery of clinical services.


  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health discipline and Utah licensure as a mental health therapist (or eligibility for Utah licensure within 2 years of date of hire).
  • Possess an active/current licensure status and remain in good standing with the Department of Professional Licensing.
  • Open and willing to learn; teachable.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use sound judgment within the scope of the position’s responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
  • Work is performed in an office environment; must sit for extended periods of time.
  • If transporting clients must possess a current driver's license, and be insurable on agency liability policy.
  • Must pass Utah DHS - Office of Licensing background check
