Description
Provide outreach services to Salt Lake City’s unsheltered individuals and/or families in order to connect clients with supportive services. The goal is to decrease Salt Lake's unsheltered population and connect individuals with safe and stable housing. Respond to community concerns, assist with community education, and problem solve around issues related to homelessness.  Volunteers of America, Utah provides a bridge to self-reliance and health for vulnerable individuals and populations who struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness in our Wasatch Front communities.

Essential Duties
  1. With outreach team members, respond to and patrol areas where people experiencing homelessness tend to frequent and initiate contact with them to learn what their needs are.
  2. Provide clients with basic needs services.
  3. Connect clients to supportive services, such as medical, housing, and basic needs resources.
  4. Identify and refer clients to Case Management when appropriate.
  5. Ensure that all paperwork related to client and program activities is properly completed, managed confidentially and stored in an appropriate location and submitted in a timely manner.
  6. Assess medical emergencies, contact emergency medical, and utilize Naloxone kits when appropriate. Complete an incident report on all emergency or critical incidents by the end of each shift.
  7. Attend weekly staff meetings and case consultations as needed.
  8. Complete all client related paperwork and tracking accurately and timely.
  9. Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings to ensure appropriate case planning and referral of clients to the most appropriate service provider.
  10. Utilize de-escalation skills to manage client crises as outlined in the agency’s training module on verbal de-escalation.
  11. Manage purchase receipts and submit them in a timely manner.

Qualifications

A Bachelor degree in a related field or one year of work experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  1. Learn and utilize software programs in use by VOA.
  2. Establish and maintain appropriate, professional boundaries with clients and coworkers.
  3. Prioritize multiple tasks; flexibility to respond to changes.
  4. Work with clients regardless of age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and/or sexual orientation, etc.
  5. Work in a team environment.
  6. Work in a professional manner with community members, governing officials, and community partners.
  7. Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including summer heat and winter snow; be willing and able to perform outreach on foot approximately five miles per day while wearing a backpack with supplies. Must be able to lift 25 Ibs.
  8. Ability to drive company vehicle; possess a current driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  9. Pass a pre-employment drug test and a criminal background check.

Pay rate:  $14.50 per hour
