Description
Make a difference by working with the homeless population at the main Salt Lake and Sugarhouse libraries. Approach individuals who are patrons and facilitate their use of community services to help them stabilize and exit homelessness. Perform the duties of a working supervisor and act as a liaison between Volunteers of America, Utah and the library management. 
  • Interview, train and supervise 2 outreach workers.
  • Manage the flow of day-to-day activities of the team.
  • Circulate through areas inside and outside the libraries and initiate contact with individuals to learn about their needs.
  • Educate clients about community resources and harm reduction practices.
  • Link clients with VOA Homeless Outreach Program staff for assistance as appropriate.
  • Engage with clients and library staff appropriately.
  • Communicate with the library staff, directors, and supervisor regarding any concerns related to the team and the services provided.
  • Attend community meetings as needed to enhance the work of the outreach team and/or the work of the continuum of homeless services. 
  • Provide training to library staff as needed.
  • Assess medical emergencies, provide emergency CPR and First Aid, and coordinate medical services.  
  • Resolve conflicts between clients and provide crisis intervention as necessary
  • Record demographic information and complete required paperwork.
Monday through Friday; Days - some flexibility in the schedule may be arranged.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in a social services field or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. 
  • Minimum of two years related experience. Experience working with a vulnerable population preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Ability to interact with clients by demonstrating genuine empathy, concern and understanding.
  • Communicate professionally with library staff and visitors.
  • Learn and use de-escalation skills and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and execute duties to ensure completion.
  • Computer literate.
  • Spend your day moving around.
  • Possession of valid Driver's License and good driving record in order to transport clients in agency vehicle, as needed. 
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
$18.00 per hour
