Volunteers of America, Utah builds a community-supported bridge that provides a path for those who are vulnerable to improve their lives and increase their self-reliance.

Fridays and Saturdays are spent at our Young Women’s Transition Home, a 24/7 program that provides safe shelter for 7 young women, 16-20 years of age. Throughout this 18 month program staff provide case management, goal setting, groups, and classes that teach critical life skills. Clients receive guidance and structure to help transition from instability and homelessness to reunification with family or independent living. Life skill building, career counseling, educational support and other services are provided in a supportive transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Staff also aid clients in their search for stable housing solutions by offering access to services and opportunities to gain the skills, education and employment necessary to become self-sufficient and independent upon exiting the program. We continue to provide services after moving out through our aftercare program to continue to support clients on their journey of success and independent living.

Sunday and Monday will be spent at our Youth Resource Center, a refuge for youth ages 15-22 who have experienced extreme disconnect from positive adult role models and benefit greatly from the consistent support of healthy adults. Clients at the Youth Resource Center have access to case management, critical resources, everyday necessities, and support. Youth Advocates interact with youth to create a safe, nurturing environment that offers stability, encourages self-sufficiency, and promotes independence. Successful Youth Advocates are non-judgmental, hold great boundaries with clients, manage multiple tasks well in what can be a fast-paced environment, ask for help when they need it, and understand how motivations and frustrations can affect people.
