Pay rate: $19 - $21 / hr
Schedule: Full Time, benefits eligible

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Counseling Specialist to join our Billing and Counseling Center teams.  As a Financial Counseling Specialist, you will serve as a liaison for the Treatment and Billing Teams and work collaboratively to ensure that accurate and timely client information is available for clean claims billing, authorizations, and other required documentation.

 

Essential Duties

  • Perform daily eligibility checks to verify client’s insurance/ funding source or ability to pay. 
  • Collect co-pays for telehealth visits and monitor co-pay collection for all visits.
  • Update required documentation when insurance or funding sources change.
  • Complete financial screenings with underinsured/uninsured clients to determine available financial assistance sources.
  • Counsel clients on available funding sources and provide education on their financial responsibilities and payment options.  Assist with developing payment plans and provide basic information on their billing account.
  • Work with the Billing team and program staff to resolve authorization and funding discrepancies.  
  • Assist front office staff with authorization process for various payers to ensure timely processing and payment for services.
  • Monitor requirements, number of sessions, and availability on limited funding contracts.
  • Participate in department meetings and training to improve billing and front office processes.
  • Attend work as scheduled and arrive at the designated time. 
  • Work must be performed on-site due to the need to provide direct client care.  

 

Secondary Duties
 

  • Cross train and act as backup for the Medicaid Enrollment Specialist as needed.
  • Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred with 2 years of social services or homelessness-related experience, or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience with electronic health record or billing systems preferred.
  • Experience with medical/behavioral health billing programs highly preferred.
  • Understand and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks: flexibility to respond to changes.
  • Work in an office environment. Must sit for extended periods of time.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction and work collaboratively.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.
 

Physical Demands

  • Work is generally performed in an office environment. 
  • May entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
