Pay: $50000 to $55000 per year.
Schedule: Full Time (benefits eligible)

Volunteers of America, Utah's Cornerstone Counseling Center helps clients by reducing barriers to needed care and facilitating connections to community resources for vulnerable individuals. In addition to outpatient behavioral health services, we offer integrated primary care services through a unique partnership with Midtown Community Health Center.

Our Adult Treatment Services Program uses a trauma informed approach to address mental health needs, substance use, and overall well-being. Each client is offered services specific to their needs, including individual counseling, group counseling, case management, integrated health care, and medication management. Our Clinical Therapist will provide direct and indirect outpatient therapy services to agency clients and assist with clinical program development and community networking as needed. Additionally, therapists will have the opportunity to work in three outpatient levels of care: day treatment, intensive outpatient, and standard outpatient. Cornerstone team members are passionate about helping those who struggle with mental health and substance use disorders and enjoy the highly supportive, collaborative work environment that we have cultivated.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Adult Treatment Services Program Manager, the SUDC/ASUDC/CSUDC functions as a clinical member of the multidisciplinary team, providing substance use treatment services in both individual and group setting to clients in an outpatient behavioral health clinic.

Essential Duties

  • Provide direct substance use disorder counseling to clients on an individual, group, and/or family basis.
  • Conduct regular assessment and treatment planning in accordance with contract requirements and within scope of practice.
  • Develop and maintain effective therapeutic alliance with clients, including conceptualizing and fostering effective therapeutic processes as it relates to treating substance use disorders.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of clients’ substance use disorder symptoms and response to treatment interventions.
  • Provide practical help and support, advocacy, coordination, problem solving, and case management as needed.
  • Complete documentation same day.
  • Meet 60% minimum direct client productivity standards.
  • Attend work as scheduled and arrive at the designated time.
  • Work must be performed on-site due to the need to provide direct client care.

Non-Essential Duties

  • Maintain good professional relationships with appropriate community partners, referral sources, and other professionals.
  • Maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge through attending conferences/ workshops/courses and reading professional materials that are relevant to job requirements and approved by the Program Director. Maintain any and all continuing education requirements in order to maintain the SUD-C professional level and status.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with and adherence to Utah laws regarding confidentiality and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with issues and trends in the behavioral health field including comorbid mental health issues, advances in psychopharmacology, theory, and evidence-based practices.
  • Performs other functions as necessary or assigned.


Qualifications

  • Substance Use Disorder Certification from an accredited college or university in a mental health discipline and Utah licensure as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with co-occurring mental illness and/or substance use disorder preferred
  • Demonstrates an ability to use sound judgment within the scope of the position’s responsibilities.
  • Organized, detail oriented, self-starter.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
  • Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
  • Become CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.
