Description
Volunteers of America, Utah provides a bridge to self-reliance and health for vulnerable individuals and populations who struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness in our Wasatch Front communities.

Assist in the operation of the kitchen facilities at Geraldine E. King Women’s Homeless Resource Center. Assist Food Service Coordinator and Volunteer Engagement Specialists in food preparation and service, ensure proper food handling practices and maintain safe and sanitary conditions of the facilities and equipment.

Essential Duties
  1. Assist in serving three meals and two snacks per day based on approved menus and delivered meals.
  2. Help ensure meals are served at scheduled times each day.
  3. Maintain/organize kitchen, food storage, and all equipment to ensure proper working order and to meet all Health Department standards.
  4. Report any kitchen maintenance needs to Food Service Coordinator or Volunteer Engagement Manager.
  5. Operate, maintain dishwashers and complete washing of dishes and flatware.
  6. Prepare eating areas for meal times and facilitate clean up.
  7. Store food in an appropriate manner and ensure that food items are properly rotated.
  8. Help maintain food storage and food handling practices to maintain the kitchen and food service areas according to safe food handling regulations.
  9. Pickup and organize all food orders, deliveries and donations and report supply needs to the Food Service Coordinator.
  10. Assist Volunteer Engagement Specialist to provide clear direction regarding food services. Facilitate general overall operation of the kitchen and implement safe food handling practices with volunteers.
  11. Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.
  12. Attend work on a regular and predictable basis.
Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must have two (2) years of experience in food service for large groups, or any combination of education, experience, and training, which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities, including but not limited to:
  1. Possess a Food Handler’s permit or obtain one upon hire.
  2. Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  3. Maintain appropriate, professional boundaries with clients, volunteers and co-workers.
  4. Remains calm and responds appropriately in crises.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  6. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks; flexibility to respond to changes.
  7. Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  8. Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  9. Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  10. Ability to stand for hours at a time.
  11. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Part-time position
$14.00 per hour
