Community Engagement Specialist

Schedule: Full Time, 10 hour days.Occasional after-hours work for events, donation drives, and occasional coverage of other facilities.
Pay rate: $15 per hour - benefits-eligible!

Volunteers of America, Utah builds a community-supported bridge that provides a path for those who are vulnerable to improve their lives and increase their self-reliance.

The Community Engagement Specialist will effectively engage and coordinate volunteers and maintain community/agency relationships, while assisting with management of VOA in-kind donation program. Under the direction of Community Engagement Director, work in cooperation with program staff at assigned facility with other Community Engagement and External Relations Staff.

Essential Duties

  1. Develop positive relationships with center volunteers and respond to volunteer inquiries for the agency by the end of the next scheduled shift.
  2. Conduct center volunteers “meet and greets” as well as tours as required and on a regularly scheduled basis.
  3. Schedule volunteers for meal preparation, donation pickups, and other daily center activities.
  4. Schedule food/donation pickups within the community and act as point of contact for partnering agencies.
  5. Prepare/Serve food in the absence of volunteers alongside the Kitchen Coordinator.
  6. Welcome and orient volunteers at the beginning of their volunteer shift to review client boundaries, expectations, confidentiality, and volunteer policies. Conduct volunteer orientations for program volunteers as needed.
  7. Maintain the kitchen in the absence or in addition to the scheduled volunteer groups.
  8. Work collaboratively with Program Manager at the Center for Women and Children when placing volunteers in programs.
  9. Maintain volunteer Volgistics data for each volunteer and group.
  10. Maintain all necessary logs and reports for partnering agencies.
  11. Attend work on a regular and predictable basis.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, parks and recreation, hospitality or a similar field or equivalent required or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Polished presentation and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation with an emphasis on meeting or exceeding volunteer expectations.
  2. Volunteer coordinator experience preferred.
  3. Obtain and keep current Utah Food Handlers Permit
  4. Work effectively and ethically with a diverse group of people.
  5. Maintain appropriate, professional boundaries with clients, volunteers, and co-workers.
  6. Exhibit clear communication skills and cooperate with others.
  7. Consider alternatives and consequences before making independent decisions.
  8. Ability to lift donations up to 25 lbs.
  9. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (no DUI within 5 years, no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years)
  10. Comfortable interacting in a professional manner with team members, a diverse workforce, donors, and outside agencies.
  11. Enthusiastic, organized, detail oriented, able to prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
  12. Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
  13. Standard schedule is four 10-hour days including one weekend shift.
  14. Vacation coverage for team members required as scheduled.
