Description
As a paid member of the Assertive Community Treatment team, provide care to severely and persistently mentally ill clients in an outpatient community setting. Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist.
- Offer a positive example of a person with lived experience who has been successful at managing their own recovery from mental health and/or substance use disorders
- Provide peer support, drawing on common experiences to validate clients’ experiences and provide guidance and encouragement to clients to take responsibility and actively participate in their own recovery
- Provide expertise and consultation from a consumer perspective to the other ACT team members
- Increase awareness of and support client participation in consumer self-help and advocacy organizations
- Help with identifying and/or re-engaging with family, friends, and other natural supports
- Provide ongoing assessment, problem solving, side-by-side services, skill teaching, support, and environmental adaptations to assist clients with activities of daily living
- Complete ACT program documentation requirements
- Visit clients in their homes
- Personal experience with mental illness and/or substance use disorders and demonstrates a level of recovery sufficient to manage their illness and function independently
- Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in Utah
- GED or high school diploma; prefer college degree in related field
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder preferred
- Working knowledge of Salt Lake City resources preferred
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor amidst potentially high distress population
- Ability to enter consumers’ dwellings, including climbing stairs
- Utah Driver’s License and good driving record
- Pass a criminal background check and drug screening
